Exhibitors were pleased with the turnout and quality of leads they generated and the sales made:

‘The highlight for us was networking with new resellers in the market. We haven’t been in Cape Town for a long time, and to meet with old resellers and new ones is good for us,’ said James Motaln, Big 5 Distribution.

‘One of the highlights was exposure: we had a lot of youngsters showing up from institutes and graphic designers that aren’t usually exposed to the industry. These visitors could be new entrants to the industry, and it’s always good to empower and inform them about this glamorous industry, and have them be part of it,’ said Brandon Bok, Printing SA.

‘We had four or five really good quality customers come through that I feel that we would not have been able to connect with (if we weren’t at the show). I’ve been trying to connect with them for the last year and that was really a highlight,’ said Lee-Ann Roos, ORAFOL.

‘It was a very good event and it was good to touch base with old clients and meet some good potential new ones, and of course to introduce them to some of our exciting new products,’ said Adam Querido, Graphix Supply World.

‘The show was good for us, and the Change One Woman (C1W) event was amazing. We had amazing clientele coming in, they were fun to deal with,’ said Jo Human, Indisol.

‘We launched some new products which got really got good traction like our HEXIS HXONE wrapping vinyl. There were some nice corporate customers that came through, which was great for us because we want to supply our product but we also want to know how the product is going to be applied and that it is used the right way. Educating the end user is becoming more important to us, and connecting with corporates and advertising agencies is key,’ said Illze Bester, Kolok Graphic Supplies.

‘The quality of people that came through was very good. We managed to close deals. The visitors asked valid questions and showed a lot of interest in the equipment. There are more customers that are now aware of the other products that we offer,’ said Graham Beck, Chemosol.

‘The atmosphere was great, there were a lot of new people that came through, a lot of new suppliers, and another highlight was the efficiency of the organisers. It was smooth running and we had no issues. It was exciting and we will definitely be back next year,’ said Lizelle Jacobs, Signbox.

‘A highlight of the show is that we get to educate visitors, and that’s one thing that people need but don’t do themselves, they don’t research and get the answers they’re looking for. So it’s really cool that even though they’re not coming to buy they get educated and understand what the technology is about and what the advancements are,’ said Darren Pieterse, Graficomp.

‘There were qualified visitors. I gave out a lot of business cards and price lists, and I really felt that it was good value. The C1W event was a tremendous initiative that I’d like to be a part of, that I can maybe give back to younger woman starting out in business,’ said Lauren Weaver, Vic Bay.

With the Kongsberg X, users can invest in the equipment needed today with the confidence that they can easily upgrade as their business grows. Users can add new materials, new applications or more capacity so that they can add volume and enter new market segments. The Kongsberg X cutting table offers versatility for a wide range of cutting applications, including packaging, 2D or 3D applications, signs or displays.

GSW will also be showcasing printing solutions from Mimaki:

TS100-1600

With this professional grade sublimation roll-based printer, users can consistently and expertly print highly detailed photographic quality graphics for small to large production runs with a maximum print speed of up to 70sqm per hour.

CJV150-130

This is a high performance integrated printer/cutter, featuring fast printing speeds up to 56.2sqm/h, and a high quality resolution of up to 1440dpi.

JV100-160

The JV100-160 adopts the recently developed, fast drying eco solvent ink ‘AAS’, which reduces graininess and allows for fine details even when printing images with high volumes of ink. Additionally, this new eco-solvent ink has superior scratch resistance and outdoor durability that allows printers to create a multitude of applications, whether they are for indoor or outdoor use.

UJV100-160 Plus

The entry level model features new capabilities and it has been designed to consume an exceptionally low amount of power. At just 0.5kW, the UJV100-160 Plus consumes less than half of the power of eco-solvent and latex/resin printers on the market (based on Mimaki research), helping print businesses to reduce running costs and their CO2 emissions.

CG130 AR

The cutting plotter features improved cutting performance, compatibility with a wide range of cutting materials and enhanced usability.

Africa Print Cape Town is taking place from 15-16 May at the CTICC. Entrance is free, please register online.

‘The leads were quite good. We had people from Namibia, as well as customers from Worcester, George, Knysna and the Eastern Cape. There was a lot of potential new business, it was really good – better than what we imagined,’ said Pierre Moller, Maizey Plastics.

‘We had a very good turnout this time in Cape Town. We were very happy with the leads we got, especially on the second day. The quality of leads that we got were solid, they were customers that we didn’t know about that came to visit the show, which was really great for us to see that there is still some interest in the market. The market is still growing, there are still some new users coming into the market, which is exciting for us, and just shows that you have to actually be at the expo to meet those people. It was awesome, we will definitely be back next year and we’re looking forward to meeting up with the customers afterwards,’ said Illze Bester, Kolok.

‘The Cape Town expo was fantastic. We had some good interest all over the board, including interest from Mauritius and Gqeberha, even some people from Johannesburg, surprisingly. All in all it was brilliant. What really captured the visitors was the 3D printing, the neon flex and the hologram fan, but then we got other people who were also interested in the LEDs, so it was good,’ said Bevan Geduldt, Exion Corp.

‘The show has been very interesting for us this year and we definitely saw a return to (normal) attendance levels. We also had many new customers coming from different industries, unlike the usual traditional print, signage or textile side. We also had a lot of customers that came from neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia and even some far away cities that we have outside the Western Cape seem to have come through to Cape Town. Being a one stop solution provider, we find that we were introducing technology all the way from the DTF textile branding solutions all the way up to the very large 3.2m flatbeds, 3.2m roll-to-rolls and also all our complementary finishing equipment. This definitely created a lot of interest and there were a lot of people wanting to diversify from traditional printing on rolls. The show has been a success for us and we believe that the outcome of the show will really be proved in the next couple of days,’ said Rob Franco, Graphix Supply World.

The quality of leads was very pleasing. Customers knew what they wanted. Customers are looking for DTF, they know it’s new on the market, so that was excellent for us. There were more people who knew what they wanted and what they were looking for,’ said Mustapha Jacobs, Rexx Screen & Digital Supplies.

‘The Cape Town show has been a very impressive one for Intamarket. We had a lot of leads. We sold 3 or 4 machines and had a lot of enquiries outside of Cape Town like Kenya and also Botswana. So we’re happy, we met the people in Cape Town, they got to meet us, and it has been a wonderful show to be a part of,’ said Richard Bell, Intamarket.
